The Wine versions below are known to have regressions that affect Office 2003. Do not try to install in them:

• 1.3.13—current: some versions of the installer have been reported to crash immediately (bugs 26358, 31942). It is not clear what versions might be affected. See the note below for the workaround.
  
• 1.3.14 through 1.3.18: standard install works fine (for installers not affected by bug 26358), but advanced customization is not possible
• 1.3.5 through 1.3.7

• 1.1.39 through 1.2-rc3: while the installer works fine in these versions, there was a regression (bug 22725) that caused Excel to crash if data was entered in two adjacent columns. Do not use these versions if you need Excel.

If the.exe installer crashes (bug 31942), install using the.msi file which should be located in the same directory as setuppro.exe. The name of this file seems to vary by version; files reported to work include pro11.msi and STD11.msi. Once Office 2003 is installed, set the following overrides in winecfg. We made 2 packages with the Package Wizard (MSI) for Office 2003 Stnd and Pro.
The installation goes well and the uninstall through the Empirum Management Console goes well.
But we want to check if there is an Office version on the computer and then uninstall that version before installing the other.
So when we install the Pro version it needs to check if there is a Standard and then remove it before installing the Pro.
We've taken the uninstall string of the Pro package and put in the Standard and the uninstall of the Standard and put it into the Pro. This works only half, the Empirum Registry key isn't removed so the inventory now says it has both versions.
